Impactech’s internship program goes from strength to strength as latest recruits exceed expectations

ImpacTech’s latest summer internship program has been the most successful so far according to co-founder and CEO George Larkou.

Larkou was speaking at a recent ImpacTech company event to celebrate the completion of internships by eight graduates and undergraduates and to present them with their certificates.

Georgios IoannidesTheodoros TheodorouAlexandros Constantinou and Georgios Hajivassiliou all successfully completed their internships in the Artificial Intelligence solutions and products department.

Working both individually and as part of the team they each completed every task that had been set and on many occasions exceeded expectations through the demonstration of their skills, professionalism and innovative ideas.

Konstantinos Sitnikov (front-end) and Constantinos Hadjicosta (back-end) proved highly valuable additions to the CRM engineering team.

Their work ethic and willingness to add the skills and knowledge needed was impressive. They were able to help the team meet its goals and as a result Konstantinos was offered and accepted a full-time position on the CRM team at ImpacTech.

During every year of the internship program ImpacTech has been in the fortunate position to be able to offer outstanding interns full-time positions at the company and every one of them has proved themselves valuable additions to the organisation.

Elli Panagi completed her internship in the web development team which operates as part of the ImpacTech’s marketing team. Her diligence and hard-work ensured her efforts contributed to the success of marketing campaigns she worked on. Some of her tasks required acquiring new skills which she applied successfully.

Last, but in no way least, Andreas Lordos completed his internship in the Database and reporting solutions department. At just 18-years-old Andreas is our youngest ever intern. But his contribution during his time impressed every member of the team and belied his years. Like most of this summer’s interns Andreas had to learn new skills and apply that knowledge in order to complete his tasks. In addition to his willingness to learn he settled into the working environment very quickly which increased the value of his contribution.

During the presentation of the certificates Larkou said: “This year we’ve had our best ever group of interns. In terms of what they have achieved and how they’ve helped us to move closer to our goals as an orgnisation they have exceeded our expectations. They leave us having learned a lot but also having contributed greatly and their success further reinforces our plans to expand the company’s internship program.”

Impactech wishes all of our interns the best in their future endeavors and hope that they will reflect on their time as Impactivators as a success and beneficial to their careers.

The internship program is just one of several initiatives undertaken by ImpacTech that are aimed at furthering the skills and prospects of young people from Cyprus. ImpacTech has also hosted AngelHack Cyprus for the last two years. The AngelHack global series is among the world’s most diverse hacker community events which drives innovation of tech products through developer programs.

ImpacTech has also sponsored a group of young students who formed Team Orion in the highly competitive F1 in schools competition. Team Orion took second place in the competition and moved onto the world finals.

Our expertise in AI and machine learning will also contribute to the ‘aRTIFICIAL iNTELLIGENCE for the Deaf’ (aiD) project that is creating solutions to help deaf people communicate. The project, which is in collaboration with Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), Georgia Tech and other partners was recently given funding of €1.7M by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme.

Increasing competition requires a purpose-built platform like Impact CRM to meet the demands of the Forex industry

Impact CRM is an essential tool for every Forex brokerage given the increasing competition and demands of the industry.

Nowadays, keeping traders happy and loyal to your brand is harder than ever and requires greater sophistication. Long gone are the days when a simple customer relationship management tool and a deposit bonus was enough.

As with every competitive industry the ability of a business to differentiate itself goes a long way to defining success.

Sam Walton, founder of the Walmart supermarket chain, said: “There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody.” This is the reality of retail Forex with many businesses failing because of their inability to retain traders.

In fact, the quality of the customer experience is going to be the key differentiator for most businesses by 2020. According to a Walker Consulting report customer satisfaction will be more important than the price and the product.

Clearly, having a CRM is better than not having any software to manage customer experience. But given the increasing competition demands in the Forex trading industry, in addition to tighter regulations and the necessity of KYC and AML it is essential for a brokerage to use a purpose-built Forex CRM like Impact CRM.

AI TECH IS A FOREX CRM GAME CHANGER

All companies, not just Forex brokers, face two challenges if they want success. Firstly, how to understand each customer’s individual needs. Secondly, how to communicate effectively during the customer journey.

Failing in either results in missed acquisition opportunities, fewer conversions, poor customer service, failure to upsell and increasing churn.

However, to meet these two challenges requires analysing customer data.

Impact CRM is the logical centre point for your customer data collection. It offers the benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and more specifically Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) is highly effective at processing this data.

Our AI-driven CRM enables a broker to understand the needs of individual traders. It also uses predictive analytics to suggest how to interact with them.

It’s like an artist painting a portrait. The more detail that goes into creating the portrait the more recognisable the subject.

To get the most accurate understanding of each Forex trader requires channelling data from phone calls, live chat, emails, chatbots, PPC and social media campaigns through Impact CRM. Additionally, data regarding deposits and withdrawals as well as payment records in relation to transactions can be crossed, analysed and matched with marketing activities. These insights give predictions on where to spend marketing budget to reach campaign objectives more efficiently.

AI-driven CRM: Understanding customers needs requires analysing data from multiple channels
Data driven: Understanding customers needs requires analysing data from multiple channels

As a result, a brokerage is better able to efficiently acquire new leads. Additionally, these prospects are acquired more cost-effectively which reduces CPL and CPA.

Delivering a more personalised customer experience also increases conversions. And by taking a holistic approach to the customer journey it is easier to identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities.

Understanding customers better increases LTV and helps a brokerage reduce churn by identifying patterns that reflect loss of brand confidence.

CONNECTING THE CRM WITH THE TRADING PLATFORM

MT4 and MT5 are the most popular Forex trading platforms and are available through our white label solution. However, Impact CRM can integrate with other Forex trading platforms.

Having a user-friendly front end makes account opening easy and carrying out fund transfers hassle-free. As Forex traders are usually spread over several countries it is also important to offer payment services that cover the world.

Impact CRM also offers multi-tenancy capability and can service multiple portals.

When targeting a global customer base, it’s also useful to have customisable rule-based client input fields. This creates a frictionless experience for Forex traders while meeting the different regulatory requirements of each territory.

For practicality, it is better to access trading accounts and demo accounts via Impact CRMs ‘front end’ and as part of logging in to the traders room client.

By linking all trading related activity directly to Impact CRM, data collection is more efficient and timelier.

This allows the ‘portrait’ of the trader to take shape immediately. An agent can make a relevant offer while the trader is active on the trading platform.

Introducing Brokers (IBs) play a pivotal role in the expansion plans of many brokerage businesses. Impact CRM offers an IB area which can be added later if IBs are not part of the immediate business model.

Some IBs start off as single person entities but grow into larger multi-location businesses which is why the IB portal accommodates a multi-tier IB network.

Impact CRM also generates IB reports to make commissions tracking easier and enable affiliates to monitor their business.

Real-time reporting: Monitor business performance with custom reports like IB payments
Real-time reporting: Monitor business performance with custom reports like IB payments

COMPETITIVE EDGE WITH AUTOMATED LEAD SCORING AND SENTIMENT ANALYSIS

There are additional features to consider which can deliver a competitive edge in the Forex industry.

Automated Lead Scoring and Automated Lead Distribution bring greater efficiency to the sales department. It determines which leads are the most qualified and segments leads to the team best suited to convert them.

The Automated Lead Distribution tool will also attribute leads based on the marketing channel it came through, the language used and IB.

Impact Telecom integration brings greater efficiency to operations as well as two cutting-edge features.

Sentiment analysis is a sub-division of AI which can determine the mood of a trader (and agent) during an interaction. These insights help Identify what makes traders happy and improves retention by increasing understanding about what actions lead to sales.

Telecoms integration also enables more efficient calls monitoring. This is another feature to consider for Forex brokerages keen to bring greater efficiency to their compliance management.

In the past, fears about data loss when switching from one CRM to another has held many Forex brokerages back. However, migration is less of a concern when moving to Impact CRM.

However, many Forex brokerages are still reluctant to make the switch because of the organisational hassle of adapting to a new system.

They continue to use legacy platforms when better options exist because of the effort (and expense) that has gone into integrating other business applications.

While those fears are valid for older systems the API architecture on Impact CRM takes the hassle out of integrating any existing applications.

EASY TO USE MODERN INTERFACE HELPS AGENTS WORK BETTER

Easy to use: deal with any customer enquiry from a single screen display
Easy to use: deal with any customer enquiry from a single screen display

Switching between platforms in order to deal with a Forex trader’s enquiry handicaps an agent trying to give an efficient response.

Impact CRM empowers every client-facing employee with the information they need to deliver the best customer experience.

The efficiency gains a business makes by switching to Impact CRM increase over time. However, working with a system that uses a modern, intuitive interface and delivers relevant information in a single screen is how to take customer experience to the next level.

By displaying all account activity on the screen along with personal information like their LTV enables an agent to make more informed and efficient decisions.

All documents including verification details, status of KYC/AML, audit logs, calls and emails can also be seen within their timelines to add relevance.

The flexibility to customise a dashboard to meet the information needs of every agent results in huge efficiencies across the entire Forex business.

Our solution also increases operational efficiency through its reporting capabilities.

It is customisable so managers get what they need to analyse their team’s performance. Meanwhile, CEOs see a global picture of the business with profit and loss reports. Naturally, the customisation extends to manage access to sensitive information.

Additionally, our solution offers the promise of zero downtime and ensures your Forex business is always available to customers. Our robust content delivery networks (CDNs) ensure your business is always online regardless of its size, traffic volume or data needs.

Security is always high on our agenda, so you don’t have to worry about it. To ensure your data is always beyond the reach of external threats our platform offers encryption using the latest technology like https and SSL protocols.

Less churn: better customer experience increases brand loyalty and reduces churn
Less churn: better customer experience increases brand loyalty and reduces churn

DEATH BY CHURN

2020 is just around the corner and customer experience will drive more purchase decisions than any other factor. Couple that with the cost of acquisition in Forex running at five times the cost of retention makes reducing churn essential.

Regulatory changes are also going to have a significant impact which further increases the need to use a purpose-built solution.

Having Impact CRM enables a better understanding of the needs and demands of traders to drive greater brand loyalty. More efficient acquisition through better marketing and accurate identification of the best prospects will also drive greater revenue growth.

Above all, the influence of AI on how brokers do business is set to increase and will eventually reach the point where brokers that don’t will no longer be able to compete with those that use AI.

Seamless migration from other CRMs is now a simple process which removes one more hurdle for switching to Impact CRM. A modern, easy to use interface and greater empowerment facilitates employee acceptance for the change. The transformation from siloed work to interdisciplinary collaboration happens over a longer period and forms part of an ongoing cultural change that gains traction through the overall success it brings to the business.

ImpacTech will provide expertise in AI and Machine Learning on aiD project to create solutions that help deaf people communicate in collaboration with Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), Georgia Tech and other partners

ImpacTech is very proud to announce that it will provide expertise in AI and machine learning (ML) for the ‘aRTIFICIAL iNTELLIGENCE for the Deaf’ (aiD) project which has been given funding of €1.7M by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme.

The ground-breaking aiD project will use AI and other cutting-edge technology to create solutions that will enable deaf people to effectively communicate and interact with everyone. The long-term goal is for these solutions to catalyse their more active participation in life.

The aim is to achieve this by facilitating communication through translation from and to sign language (SL) via mobile devices. The project also aims to provide educational solutions for deaf children.

The aiD project will leverage ML and augmented reality (AR) technology. It will also use speech-to-text/text-to-speech algorithms. These algorithms now perform with high accuracy as a result of the latest breakthroughs in deep learning (DL).

ImpacTech will contribute to aiD through its strong research and development team that have developed leading solutions revolving around signal processing and natural language understanding.

The project will also draw on ImpacTech’s expertise in user requirement specification and offer access to state-of-the-art technical knowledge on ML principles. Additionally, aiD will have access to the ImpacTech data centre which comprises of world class hardware for DL.

The project brings together expertise from CUT, Georgia Tech, Anontec Infosystems Ltd, Ethniko kai Kapodistriako Panepistimio Athinon, HandsUp Agency IKE, Modus SA, Hellenic Federation of the Deaf, University of Kent, Hostdrop OÜ and European Union of the Deaf.

The €1.7M funding from Horizon 2020, the EU’s biggest research and innovation programme, will be spread over the four years. 32 scientists will work on producing solutions that significantly reduce the social exclusion felt by people with hearing disability.

OVER 750,000 DEAF SIGN LANGUAGE USERS IN EUROPE WILL BENEFIT FROM PROJECT

According to the European Union of Deaf (EUD) there are only 12,000 interpreters for more than 750,000 deaf SL users.

This highlights the barriers that deaf and hard-of-hearing people face when trying to communicate with hearing people. Their disability restricts their opportunities for employment and access to proper education.

For example, in Greece and Spain more than 60% of deaf children have extremely limited reading and writing skills.

In 2017 the World Health Organisation (WHO) published the ‘Global cost of unaddressed hearing loss and cost-effectiveness of interventions’ research. It reveals that the annual global cost to the healthcare sector is between $67–107 billion. It also estimates that the annual cost of unaddressed hearing loss is in the range $750–790 billion globally.

Addressing the multifaceted challenge of enabling deaf people to effectively communicate, interact, and eventually participate in social life will bring about a major breakthrough to the lives of hundreds of thousands of European citizens.

Previous attempts to use technology to solve these problems for the deaf have been restricted to narrow use cases. In contrast, aiD is taking a holistic approach to the problem. The objective is to pursue innovation that enables seamless communication for deaf people in any real-world scenario.

Horizon 2020, who announced the decision to fund aiD on July 1, is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme. H2020 have nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020). It is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe’s global competitiveness.

STRONG SUPPORT FROM THE OUTSET

Upon announcement of the €1.7M funding, Project coordinator Professor Soterios Chatzis thanked everyone who has been part of aiD. Chatzis has been pioneering the research of ML for the interpretation of sign language and conversion into text and language.

He also gave special mention to the Hellenic Federation of the Deaf and the European Union of the Deaf who have given their complete support for the project from its offset.

DocDoc app that empowers patients scoops HACKcelerator and Amazon prize while AETOS fire detection early warning system wins IBM prize at hackathon powered by ImpacTech

Disaster prevention and timely medical intervention were powerful motivators driving entrepreneurs at AngelHack Cyprus 2019 hosted by ImpacTech.

Recent graduate Markos Karasamanis moves on to the AngelHack HACKcelerator competition and also won the Amazon prize for his DocDoc app. Markos has the chance to attend a mentorship program to fast-track his idea with other hackathon winners.

His app empowers patients with medical information about their condition and the treatment they are receiving. A recent medical complication following treatment involving his grandfather was Markos’ inspiration. Insufficient information about the condition meant he had to rush his grandfather to the hospital.

DocDoc uses IBM Watson chatbot for the user interface and AWS natural language processing to collect information about the treatment. After inputting the info a patient receives advice about potential complications. Markos feels DocDoc will be particularly useful for chronic illness sufferers. Many lack a complete understanding of their condition to understand the effects of the treatment or knowledge about potential alternatives.

The IBM prize-winning AETOS team opened their presentation referencing the 93 lives lost in forest fires in Greece last year. Their fire detection early warning system is a network of autonomous, real-time temperature monitors posted over a wide area that send an alert when a sensor detects fire is a high possibility.

AETOS can cover wide open areas that are notoriously difficult to monitor and enables emergency services to respond quickly. The timeliness in response by the emergency services is the key factor in damage limitation when a fire breaks out. Parks, zoos and farms, which are also vulnerable during long dry summers and difficult to monitor can benefit from AETOS.

ANGELHACK’S OBJECTIVE IS FOR SOLUTIONS TO PRODUCE POSITIVE EFFECT ON COMMUNITIES

One of the objectives of every AngelHack event is to produce solutions that have a positive effect on local communities. ImpacTech is proud to put on an event that focuses on innovation and its benefits to communities. It’s the reason why ImpacTech became main hosts for this year’s event following our role as joint hosts last year.

One of the key principals at Impactech is to further innovation and to give talented innovators the opportunity to excel.

There was an abundance of talent at this year’s AngelHack Cyprus. Chain of Charity is another example of how innovation helps a community and was runner-up for the main HACKcelerator prize. It continued the life-saving theme at AngelHack Cyprus with its blockchain based platform for getting aid to disaster affected areas.

The key objective behind Chain of Charity is to ensure charity donations get to victims more efficiently. The team behind the platform also identified the general public’s fear that donations do not always reach the people they are intended for. Their project aims to bring greater transparency and security to charity and aid work.

This year’s hackathon drew a highly motivated field with most entrants making full use of the excellent facilities at University of Cyprus over the June weekend. Everyone who entered the competition earned $100 in AWS credits as well as invaluable experience and knowledge.

Taking advice and guidance from the ImpacTech mentors at the event, every team worked until late on Saturday until the 13:00 “code freeze” deadline on Sunday before pitching their ideas to the judges.

ANGELHACK’S JUDGES FACED A DIFFICULT CHOICE

After their pitch every team faced the judging committee’s questions to ensure fairness and originality. It also gave the teams the opportunity to demonstrate how they could monetise their idea and how revenue streams could expand in the future. Additionally, they were asked technical questions to ensure their code was ‘fresh’ and that genuine innovation would be acknowledged.

The AngelHack Hackathon series travels all over the world in its quest to encourage young talent to come together to pool their skills and produce innovative solutions.

Given the level of the competition at this event it’s not too early to prepare for the next AngelHack Cyprus hackathon. Follow ImpacTech on social media to stay up to date about future events.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Impact Tech and University of Cyprus formalises an exciting and productive cooperation for future research projects, provide a cutting-edge technology environment for students to sharpen their skills and the opportunity to shape the future developing intelligent solutions

Impact Tech LTD and University of Cyprus have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which provides the framework for cooperation with the University on research projects, applied experience and student work placements.

Impact Tech’s CEO Georgios Larkou signed the agreement at the University’s Nicosia campus with the University’s Head of Computer Science Elpida Keravnou. Present at the MoU signing was Impact Tech’s CTO Giorgos Nikolaides alongside University of Cyprus’ Data Management Systems Library Director Demetris Zeinalipour, Associate Professor Chryssis Georgiou and Assistant Professor Elias Athanasopoulos.

Georgios Larkou expressed his delight about the many benefits the MoU offers Impact Tech. One benefit is access to some of Cyprus’ brightest students who regularly impress with their research papers and academic excellence.

One initiative already in motion is a proposed research project that analyses hate crime and the risk of its occurrence based on temporal patterns of hate speech on social media. The proposal has already gone out for funding and could reveal far-reaching insights for the future of law enforcement.

Before signing the MoU both Impact Tech and University of Cyprus had already collaborated through the provision of work placements. Many former University of Cyprus graduates are already employed by Impact Tech at their office in Limassol. The MoU creates the platform for further cooperation including Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and research programs.
